But the impact of the 2024 election could be felt for years in another important way: It may have relegated Democrats to long-term minority status in the Senate.
According to a new FiveThirtyEight analysis, barring significant changes in the party's coalition, it will be tough for them to win a majority in coming elections — and implausible to win the 60-seat majority needed to overcome a filibuster (assuming that parliamentary maneuver isn't abolished).
