The legislative session, which began the day before the press conference, was called to “safeguard California values and fundamental rights” in the wake of President-elect Donald Trump’s election. Organized by ASUC External Affairs Vice President, or EAVP, Saanvi Arora’s office, the ASUC delegation’s trip to Sacramento included both an appearance at the press conference and lobbying visits by the EAVP’s office to state legislators. ASUC Senator Medina Danish, who attended both the conference and lobbying sessions, said she and other senators were focused on preserving undocumented students’ rights, maintaining FAFSA funding and upholding civil rights such as those enshrined in Title IX.
