#MorehouseRemembers: Renowned poet, activist, educator, Morehouse Mom - the incomparable Nikki Giovanni - has joined the ancestors at 81. A warm truth-teller who stood firm on love, justice, race, and gender, Giovanni’s words were often simultaneously on time and ahead of her time. Before becoming a pivotal voice in the Black Arts Movement, she graduated from Fisk University, and her only son, Thomas Watson Giovanni, followed in her HBCU footsteps by graduating from Morehouse College in 1994.   In addition to her 30+ poetry collections and 10 recorded poetry albums, Giovanni also served 35 years as an English professor at Virginia Tech, retiring in 2022.   Morehouse extends its deepest condolences to Nikki’s loved ones, especially Brother Thomas, his daughter Kai, and Nikki’s wife, Virginia Fowler while celebrating her magnificently full life so intentionally well lived.   #Morehouse #MorehouseCollege #NikkiGiovanni
