Throwback video of one of my first clients and, now my brother in law, boyle530 during his time with sdgullsahl that I reference when I am discussing patience and play reads with clients. Last night, one of my 2010 goaltenders that I train was bringing up the use of the overlap and how to read when to use it. In this situation, Connor Garland, who is a right handed shot gets a step on the bad angle driving to the net. Kevin gets a good read that he has weak side support, so he stays patient. If you notice, Garland has his eyes up the whole time, so if Kevin went to drop into an RVH, he would’ve given Garland an advantage. By holding his ground, he forces him to his back hand in tight, which Kevin is easily able to shift up and smother due to the proximity of the puck and his weak side support. There are no generic approaches to situations, as all situations will vary. Glory days, eh, Kevin?!?! #readtheplay #overlap #scantheice #strongedgesstronggame #ahl #nhl riverhawkhockey #goalie #...
