New York in Pink. It’s rare when the action on the pitch takes a backseat to something like this. And it’s even more special when it’s a mission driven by the community. On Friday night, brooklynfootballclub held its first-ever Pink Game in collaboration with the American Cancer Society. Donation drives, local partner tents, and special kits made the evening a festive affair, but the main event was honoring the breast cancer survivors who were invited to the game. Charmaine Deshong and Judith Hinds, who have been 9 and 11 years cancer free, participated in a special penalty kick at the end of the match to honor the cancer survivors in attendance and wrap up such a special day. Even though BKFC ultimately fell 0-1 at the hands of DC Power, the strides taken off the pitch are an important victory.
