Gotham Goes to Washington. First time an NWSL champion has gotten the full White House distinction. And how deserved it was. Within those walls, it was hard not to remember everything Gotham went through to lift that improbable trophy last year. More importantly, it was impossible not to think of everything the NWSL has gone through to get to such a moment. The ceremony in DC felt like a deserved honor for Gotham, but also like a celebration for everything the league and its players have done to grow women’s sports in the US. Of course, Biden showered last year’s champs with well-deserved praise, but Ali Krieger put it best: “This moment is not just about titles or trophies, it’s about paving the way. Being the first is historic, but it’s even more important that we ensure we are not the last.” It’ll be up to all of us to make sure Ali’s words ring true for years to come.
Thank you crvnka for capturing the festivities at the White House.
