Mr. Sanchez’s Engineering II students recently applied their matrix laboratory (MATLAB) programming skills to a biometric data project. Students collected data about screen time, step count, exercise time, calories burned, and other metrics from peers and faculty members. Students then analyzed the data, calculated sums and means, wrote code to create data charts, and presented their findings to the class. “This project wasn’t about creating perfectly accurate statistical models. I wanted the students to apply their coding knowledge to something tangible, engaging, and personally meaningful to them,” shares Mr. Sanchez.
