ℹ️ Ahead of a test or race weekend, drivers spend time in our simulator at our Banbury HQ. It helps them to learn the track if it is new to them, and ensure that they are up-to-date on the car’s functions.
For the engineers, it enables them to validate car set-ups and determine their run plans ahead of the event, as well as provide operational training opportunities.
The 3D ‘model’ of each track that is used in the sim includes extremely accurate details of the environment such as bumps and curbs. The model is created via laser scanning of the circuit and is received by teams around 2 weeks prior to the race.
However, a simulation can only do so much and there are still a number of factors that are unknown to the team and drivers until they arrive at the event, such as grip levels, weather conditions and even minor track layout changes.
