In two days, director Mohammad Rasoulof (THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG, THERE IS NO EVIL, A MAN OF INTEGRITY) joins us on the newest episode of the Team Deakins Podcast. After learning how Mohammad found his way into filmmaking, we discuss how he made many of his films, from the metaphorical IRON ISLAND to his most recent film, THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG. During our conversation, Mohammad reflects on his pivot from using metaphorical cinematic language to using a far more direct language to create images of modern Iranian society, and he shares his thoughts on the function of metaphorical imagery under an oppressive and wide-reaching censorship apparatus. We also learn how Mohammad routinely outmaneuvered the censorship officers to make his films, and we marvel at his and his fellow cast and crew’s tenacity to keep telling stories. Hear more on Wednesday! Translation conducted by Iante Roach. - Recommended Viewing: Every Mohammad Rasoulof film - This episode is sponsored by Aput...
