BUZZER BEATING WIN: The girls varsity basketball team played a tight game against LASA, one of their biggest competitors, on Friday Dec. 13. With 10 seconds left in the game, the two rivals were tied at 39. Those 10 seconds will undoubtedly be etched into McCallum girls basketball legend for how they played out. Inbounding the ball from halfcourt, Sofia Villanueva passed the ball to senior guard Miranda DiGiovanni near the baseline just inside the 3-point arc. DiGiovanni squared up to shoot but facing defenders whipped the ball back to Villanueva, who dribbled to the top of the key before handing the ball off to senior point guard Emy Chen and setting a screen for her. Chen received the ball and used the screen to drive toward the basket. After four dribbles, Chen leaped into the air.
