The name of the person I contacted was Dick Traum and that started a friendship that lasted until his passing this year. I miss him very much because he and the Achilles Track Club influenced my life so much.”
Meet Larry Sillen👋, an NYRR member since 1980. When Larry started running in 1978, he didn’t realize he’d eventually become such an active part of the NYC running community. Decades later he’s run well over 200 NYRR races including completing the New York City Marathon 8 times, 5 of which he’s done as a guide with Achilles International. He’s also volunteered at many NYRR races, expos, and Open Runs in Brooklyn.
When he first started signing up for races, he noticed a fellow runner giving out 4x6 photos from the race and was encouraged to do the same. He said it was a great way to make new friends.📸
