At just 3 years old, Murrell was stricken with polio, leaving his right leg paralyzed. But that didn't stop him from living his life. With the help of a custom brace provided by the State Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Murrell took on life's challenges with strength and determination.
Before joining Goodwill, Murrell “summered” cattle in Moscow mountains, worked at a mechanic in California, operated a service station in Idaho, and worked in the apple industry.
In January 1955, Murrell began his journey with Goodwill as a repairman in the electrical appliance workshop. In 1958, he bought his own house, car, and was named Inland Empire Goodwill Worker of the Year !
As we continued to celebrate 85 years of changing lives in the inland northwest, we honor his legacy today and are inspired by his unwavering spirit.
