Alan E S Cerqueira a scientist in the Moran Lab and Tico Canato
@ticocanato a Brazilian artist decided to merge science and art to create a representation of bee microbiome research through Tico’s artistic lens. Sociality underlies the microbial exchange between bees, benefiting their health. This concept can metaphorically extend to humans, where even small-scale interactions and exchanges of wisdom, kindness, and care can contribute to mental well-being. At this event, we will depict the microbial benefits to bees’ health in art. Tico’s paintings, especially his use of glow-in-the-dark dyes, are uniquely suited to this representation. The reason for the bees’ happiness after socializing is revealed when the black lights are turned on, exposing the glowing microbes in their guts like a magical superpower for joy.
