At a young age, Coach J faced challenges that would knock down many—he was cut from his high school team and told he wasn’t good enough. Instead of giving up, he turned setbacks into fuel, joining the ROTC basketball team to build discipline and structure. His dedication led him to play junior varsity, varsity, and eventually set him on a path to coach others. Yet, the road wasn’t easy—success led to tough lessons, and Coach J faced substance misuse and a near-fatal injury. After a year of recovery, rebuilding himself physically and mentally, and overcoming deep depression, his life took a turn when his children were born.
