What followed was an unthinkable violence—nearly beaten to death—for daring to challenge segregation. Charles' actions were a pivotal moment in the civil rights movement, but his work and dedication didn’t stop there. As a student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, he joined the countless young people who marched, sat-in, and stood up against the systemic injustice of Jim Crow laws. He was a living testament to the courage and spirit of the youth-led movement that changed the course of history.
