My own mom thought it was her fault, something she had done or not done while she was pregnant with me. Another friend felt relief because she had been repeatedly told her child was “lazy” for not having spoken language development yet. Another was elated - as all of her children and grandchildren were hearing and finally she had one family member who could potentially understand and live in her same beautiful deaf world.
