“At the end of the day, coaches are human, too. We care deeply about our players, but we can’t pour from an empty cup.” LeAndra Martin, former assistant NCAA basketball coach, opened up about the mental challenges that coaches face, which often go unrecognized. Martin talks about the importance of a coach’s role in supporting an athlete’s mental health, and how coaches are often serve as the first line of defense in recognizing that an athlete is struggling. After stepping away from coaching, she became certified as a Mental Health First Aid instructor. After receiving a grant from Mental Health America of Northern Kentucky and Southwest Ohio, she now trains coaches on how to become Mental Health First Aid certified, as well. We are so thankful for your work in this field, LeAndra! Drop a “💚” in the comments below for Coach Martin! #coachesmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #coach
