The varsity girls basketball team lost 57-35 to rival Anderson in a road district match on New Year’s Eve. After back-to-back district titles the past two years, McCallum has found that the UIL district realignment since last season to be a challenge according to sophomore Ruby Airhart.
“It was our second [district] loss so, [the realignment has presented] a little problem in our run for district because we want to be district champs again like the past two years, so now it’s going to be a bit difficult to achieve that,” Airhart said.
Before the game began, the team was anxious to play, but they remained positive.
“We were feeling a little bit like underdogs there because we were at their home and we realized they had a lot of good players, but we were feeling hopeful,” Airhart said.
Despite pre-season practice, Airhart said the varsity Knights did not play as well against Anderson as they had hoped to.
