About 40-60% of my training volume has been cross training for the last 4 years, so I like to think I know a thing or two 🤔 1. 10min=1 mile: this isn’t exact, but I generally try to cross train 10min for every mile that I’m replacing. For example, a 4 mile double would be replaced with a 40min cross training sesh. 2. Mimic aerobic effort: I try to have a HR within 10bpm of whatever type of run I’m mimicking. For example, my easy run HR is usually 135-145, so I try to keep my easy cross training HR between 130-150. If I’m mimicking threshold training, I’ll try to keep it around 160-170 (my running threshold HR is 170-173). 3. Try different types: this is pretty self explanatory, but everyone enjoys different types of cross training. Find what works best for you! 4. Distraction: this is VERY key. I like scrolling reels, watching YouTube, or having a show that I specifically “save” for the elliptical. These help me stay entertained and dissociate from the reality of cross trainin...
