Jamieson police and cfavic conducted a patrol of camping grounds in the Upper Goulburn State Forest on Boxing Day. During the patrol, 18 people were found to have lit a campfire on a total fire ban day, with the fires immediately dealt with by authorities.
Last week, police issued a warning about the dangers of unextinguished campfires following an incident in Cape Otway that led to a bushfire and the evacuation of 150 nearby campfires. About 14 hectares were also destroyed.
