A few years ago, sammysinsss and __k_a_wai were faced with a question plaguing them and their friends about New York City nightlife: “Where can we just dance to K-pop in Brooklyn?” Thus,
bias.nyc, the duo’s nightlife party series turned NYC’s premier K-pop rave destination, was born.
On January 10, Sammy Kim and KA WAI hosted their biggest party yet at Brooklyn’s massive three-room venue elsewherespace to mark BIAS’s second anniversary.
“I want K-pop to be a space where we can deconstruct industry norms and standards and project our own feelings and desires onto K-pop,” says Kim. “For a lot of queer people, and young people, it’s been a space for us to project our own feelings or fantasies of being divas, performers. A lot of friends have told me that K-pop helped their queer awakening. Queer people love performance. It’s a space for us to see people expressing themselves.”
