Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Portland near the Justice Center Saturday to protest ahead of the incoming presidential administration.
Portland’s protest was one of several similar gatherings throughout the country.
Demonstrators — many carrying signs — assembled in Terry Schrunk Plaza at 10 a.m., heard speakers and sang chants until 11:30 a.m., and then marched on the sidewalk until noon.
“I look out on all of you, and I see an ally in each of you,” said Veronica Leonard, associate deputy director of programs for the nonprofit Latino Network as she gave a speech on immigration ahead of the incoming Trump administration. “What we have now is a stronger, more united coalition of communities than ever before.”
