The directive comes after an earlier return-to-office proposal for all city workers floated by the mayor received intense pushback from employees and public union leaders, prompting him to backtrack on that plan. Wilson broke the news in an email to about 700 city managers and supervisors — roughly 10% of the city’s 7,000-person workforce — who are currently required to spend at least 20 hours a week in the office unless they have an exemption.
