Weather forecasters say Oregonians should prepare for some snow on Thursday — but that’s just the start. A transition to freezing rain later in the day could turn the roads into slick sheets of ice. And those hazardous conditions will arrive just as Oregonians are gearing up for holiday weekend travel. There’s some good news: The freezing weather and the ice-rink streets have an expiration date. By traveling early Thursday or waiting until warmer weather arrives Saturday, travelers can improve their odds of arriving at their destination safely. “People should just make sure they don’t go out in the ice,” said Don Hamilton, a spokesperson for the Oregon Department of Transportation. “If they have any errands to run, go get them done before this storm hits.” Even avoiding the worst of the ice storm, drivers may encounter snow or slush.
