Artist Simon Berger’s newest installation at the Wynwood Walls reimagines an authentic Chicago Transit Authority subway car through his remarkable glass portraiture technique. During Art Week 2024, we held a private demonstration, spectators watched in silent awe as he transformed ordinary glass into extraordinary art through his precise, controlled fractures. The installation employs specialized architectural glass — reflective on one side, transparent on the other — creating an immersive experience where viewer and artwork merge. Each portrait emerges from the glass surface through meticulously placed breaks, transforming what might be considered destruction into a sophisticated artistic medium.
