Interior designer Peter Dolkas takes us inside his Brooklyn apartment…or as he puts it, his laboratory. Because the apartment was turn-key, requiring no renovations, and the kitchen a sleek wall of slate blue cabinets, he knew the open floor plan would be a thrill to decorate. He decided to cover the varied upholstery pieces in the main living area in all the same fabric – a decorating trick he borrowed from the classic English country house playbook. Dolkas put his own spin on the decorating tradition by using a solid fabric instead of a pattern - transforming the main living space into a simple and meditative cocoon— something he yearns for after spending the day working with a wide range of materials and prints.
