In 2009, the remarkable filly Rachel Alexandra made history in many ways, but most notably when she became the first 3-year-old filly to ever be crowned Horse of the Year.
It was in her 3-year-old season that she was a perfect 8-for-8, highlighted by five Grade Is that included victories in the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Preakness Stakes, GI Mother Goose Stakes, GI Haskell and GI Woodward.
Now, a new filly has joined the list as THORPEDO ANNA was recently crowned the 2024 Horse of the Year. She is the second 3-year-old filly in history to receive that honor.
In her 3-year-old season this past year, she was 6-for-7, with five Grade I victories in the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Acorn Stakes, GI Coaching Club American Oaks, GI Cotillion Stakes and GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
Her only loss came in the GI Travers Stakes against the boys, just finishing second - by a head - to Fierceness.
