Exciting news for science! The White Desert Foundation’s inaugural grant recipient, Project LifeMet of saef_arc has begun its search for meteorites in Antarctica. The LifeMet team is investigating how Antarctic microorganisms interact with meteorites, which could provide a rich source of nutrients for life in an otherwise barren and harsh environment, and how this might change with a changing Antarctica. The movement of meteorites is done with great care to keep them sterile, at the same ambient Antarctic temperature, and within the legal permitting - due to their great scientific value. Once back in the lab they will be able to confirm their type and extraterrestrial provenance, and analyse them for microbial inhabitants.
