Jaylin Drewry, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., has been appointed Commissioner of the Crime and Gun Violence Prevention Commission in Portsmouth. At just 23 years old, he is the youngest chairman in the city’s history and the Hampton Roads area. Drewry, a Norfolk State University graduate and former SGA president, previously gained national recognition in 2021 when he participated in the White House HBCU Covid-19 Roundtable, sponsored by Watch The Yard. His leadership experience as SGA President of Norfolk State University has now led him to tackle crime and gun violence in his hometown. His appointment proves yet again the significant impact of HBCU alumni in public service and community leadership.
