For Emma Hart ’23, “vulnerability is courageous.” She spent the last year completing a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, exploring multiple countries and working on topics related to gender-based violence. She found that spaces that promote healthy masculinities and encourage vulnerable conversation are key to stopping harm before it happens.
While abroad, she traveled to Australia, Thailand, New Zealand, South Africa, Croatia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Recently, she returned to Oberlin to discuss her experience and advise students on the application process for the Watson Fellowship. “Watson was a path out of ‘I HAVE to do this work,’ and into ‘I GET to do this work,’” she said. Next, Emma is pursuing a Masters in Development Studies at Cambridge University.
