Did you know that we have a letterpress studio? Located on the second flood of Mudd Library, the letterpress studio is currently hosting a Winter Term sponsored by Special Collections & Preservation Librarian Ed Vermue.
In this project, students are learning how to use two types of hand-operated presses, moveable type and linocuts. They design, proof, and print pieces, ultimately leading to the creation of a sixteen page book.
The Letterpress Winter Term can be applied for credit toward the completion of a Book Studies minor, which requires one practicum. Combining disciplines such as art, history, and English, a minor in Book Studies delves into the social and cultural history of books and multimedia texts as well as artisanal and artistic approaches to book-making.
