🪷 In honor of Women's History Month and the ongoing ✊🏿 Black History Month celebrations on campus, we present today's illustrious alumna:
@umraomar. ✨💐💫
·
Umra Omar '06, a native of Kenya, completed her bachelor's degree in neuroscience and psychology at Oberlin College. After obtaining a master's degree in intercultural relations from the World Learning Institute, she returned to Kenya and discovered an abandoned medical aid project in her childhood community on the Kenya-Somalia border. Witnessing the urgent need for healthcare services, she founded Safari Doctors in 2015, a program dedicated to providing community-driven medical services, life-saving interventions, youth-focused health trainings, and civic engagement for underserved areas of Lamu, Kenya.
·
Her exceptional contributions to healthcare accessibility in her country have earned her recognition as a Top 10 CNN Hero in 2016 and the United Nations in Kenya Person of the Year Award in 2017.
