All eyes are on THE @rhiannongiddens! Join us in commemorating her incredible impact today. Multifaceted musician Rhiannon Giddens '00 is a Grammy- and MacArthur Fellow-winning singer, fiddler, and banjo player. She has returned to Oberlin to perform several times since she graduated, including with her former band the Carolina Chocolate Drops; as part of her 2016 tour “Swimming in Dark Waters: Other Voices of the American Experience” with Bhi Bhiman and Leyla McCalla; and most recently in fall 2022 with collaborator Francesco Turrisi as part of Oberlin's Artist Recital Series. Among her numerous projects, Giddens is the new artistic director of Silkroad, the inventive ensemble founded by Yo-Yo Ma and dedicated to cross-cultural collaboration and the author of the children's book Build a House. In 2023, she received a Pulitzer Prize for composing the libretto for the opera Omar. Photo by Yevhen Gulenko #bhm #oberlinalumni #oberlin #oberlincollege #oberlinohio #blackhistorymonth #h...
