Eduardo Mondlane '53 served as president of the Mozambican Liberation Front from 1962 until his assassination in 1969. With a PhD in anthropology from Northwestern, he taught at Syracuse University. After his death, he was remembered at Oberlin as "a man of the highest character and ideals. He was in every sense a citizen of the world."
