SLAM DUNK: Ray Barrett scored 11 points and teammate Ryland Jones scored 10 as the JV Knights relied on a supremely balanced scoring effort to pummel the Navarro Vikings 71-12 on Jan. 14 at home. Though the score did not provide much drama, there were some dramatic moments for the Knights that got the crowd buzzing and on their feet. In the second quarter, team manager Niko Vega entered the game and made an immediate impact, scoring five points to the delight of the home fans and Vega’s teammates on the Knight bench. One of those teammates—Amsden Withers—said he was ecstatic when Vega went into the game. “I couldn’t believe Niko went in,” Withers said. “I was so excited for him.” Withers delivered a highlight of his own during the game: his first career dunk during a live game. “I was really excited about my dunk,” he said. “I’ve been waiting to have a successful one in a game.” Withers thinks the team has had a successful season so far, but work could still be put in. “We ca...
