Storms and floods in Brazil, Indonesia, Ireland, parts of the UK, and many other countries have caused widespread destruction, bringing life to a standstill—including the closure of schools. Fossil fuelled extreme weather disasters are impacting the lives of millions of children. A new UNICEF analysis reveals that at least 242 million students in 85 countries or territories had their schooling disrupted by extreme climate events including heatwaves, tropical cyclones, storms, floods and droughts in 2024, exacerbating an existing learning crisis. We must mobilise against the climate inaction of which many governments are guilty and grow the movement against the fossil fuel criminals who are making obscene profits and have spent decades denying, deceiving and delaying climate action. Polluters must pay.
