Everyone has the power—and responsibility—to make a positive impact on the world, says Kehkashan Basu. And this environmental activist got an early start on building her résumé: She was 7 years old when she planted her first tree. And she was just 12 when she launched greenhopefoundation to help young changemakers deliver on U.N. Sustainable Development Goals in their communities.
“We don’t just talk about sustainable development,” Basu says. “We help people take action to bring about change in their own zones of influence.”

From there, the org helps build programming that addresses those issues—whether it’s using art to teach Nepalese children about water conservation or holding workshops on environmental conservation with kids in refugee camps.
To date, the group has reached more than 300,000 children. The result? More than 721,000 trees planted and 3,300 tons of trash recycled.
