Travel is more than just beautiful destinations, it’s the people and the cultures you meet along the way that challenge long held beliefs. Today with latintravelcollection was a great reminder of that as we went up river to meet the local Shaman. He walked with chelsea_ea and I as he explained how every little plant we walked by had a purpose and a long held belief by his people. From natural bug repellants to to stomach aches, to fertility (and anti-fertility) and basically anything that ails you, Louis had the answer.
He knew what the leaves, the roots, and the bark all do and how to best consume, or not consume it. The Amazon is so dense that sunlight seldom reaches some of the thickest parts, and yet people have thrived for thousands of years and will continue to do so. Today was a reminder that the world is bigger than us, and modern ways could sometimes learn some lessons about slowing down to realize the answers are all around.
Bonus point for those that scrolled all the way...
