The Corning Museum of Glass started producing the WGI NASCAR trophy in 2012. The design was a collaboration between WGI and the Museum, incorporating important elements of both the track and the region. Corning glassmakers create the trophy from the inside out, hand sculpting the core in the shape of the WGI racetrack. We recently had the opportunity to talk with previous winner Marcos Ambrose about his win at WGI and get his thoughts on the very unique trophy he now displays in his home in Australia.
“It’s an absolute work of art and has pride of place in my house,” said Ambrose. “The thought that goes into the Watkins Glen trophy is incredible. Drivers certainly appreciate having a memory like this that they can physically take home with them.”
Visit the Museum and see hot glass come to life during daily live demonstrations.
