💛 Behind these bright yellow sugar beet sculptures is a story of resilience. Located at Plaza station in Winnipeg, テンサイ (Tensai) by cindy_mochizuki, pfsstudio, and winnipegartscouncil represents the struggles of Japanese Canadians during World War ll. Forcibly displaced, families could only stay together if they agreed to move and work in the sugar beet fields.  Resembling wagashi (a traditional Japanese confectionary art form), the installation is a reminder of the labour and hardships in the form of a peaceful space for play and contemplation. Public art has the power to tell important stories. This is one of the many projects inspiring the STEPS team, link in bio for the full list ✨ 📸 liz.tran #STEPSPublicArt #STEPSImpact #PublicArt #PublicSpace #FieldNotes #BlogSeries #WinnipegArt #Sculptures #SculptureInstallation #WinnipegArtScene #ArtStories #CanadianArt #CanadianArtists #PublicArtInstallation #PublicArtwork
