ICING ON THE CAKE: After the District 5A Diving Meet today in Round Rock, junior Iris Burns-Traganovsky (left) poses for photos with two LASA diver friends, Elizabeth Bircher (center) and Frogby Sachs (right).
Burns-Trahanovsky dove in the girls one-meter diving competition and received second place. Bircher was first; Sachs, fourth. By finishing second, Burns-Trahanovsky advances to Regionals in San Antonio next weekend.
The result was especially satisfying given a few extenuating circumstances surrounding today’s meet, according to Burns-Trahanovsky.
“I’m currently only diving feet first because I injured my thumb,” Burns-Trahanovsky said.
Coach Jeff Rudy was surprised when Burns-Trahanovksy was cleared to compete in the competition. Originally, Burns-Trahanovsky was not planning to compete until around a week ago.
“[The feet first dives] presented some obvious challenges as she had to learn many new dives,” Rudy said. “Finishing second was certainly icing on the cake!”
