📣 Patients in vast swathes of the country could find it even harder to see a GP in the future if vital funding to attract doctors to socioeconomically deprived areas is withdrawn. And we’re calling on NHS England to do something about it. Last week, we wrote to NHS England to express our concerns around the lack of confirmed funding for the Targeted Enhanced Recruitment Scheme (TERS) for the 2025/2026 programmes. We made clear the success of the scheme in safeguarding equitable healthcare provision and improving patient outcomes in underserved communities, and the importance of continuing funding for the scheme so that this progress isn’t reversed. We also heard from GP registrars who have benefited from the scheme, and shared their testimonials (swipe to read them) with NHS England to show the positive impact TERS is having on the GP workforce and patient care in the areas that need it most.
