OpenAI is making big moves with its $100 billion Stargate project. Still, despite its massive price tag, the first data center planned for Abilene, Texas, is raising eyebrows about how few people it will employ once it's up and running. According to the report, the sprawling 875-acre facility – about the size of New York's Central Park – will create only 57 full-time jobs, each paying an average of $57,600 annually. A Huge Project, Minimal Jobs The Stargate data center is being built to support OpenAI's artificial intelligence systems, and it's backed by SoftBank and Oracle, who are helping to fund and manage the ambitious project. While the size and scope of the data center are undeniable, the job creation numbers are modest, especially compared to the fanfare surrounding its announcement.
