JV-A KNIGHTS 57, STARS 11: The JV-A girls basketball team beat the Ann Richards Stars for a home district win on Jan. 7. The Knights jumped out to an early lead with 18 first-quarter points to the Stars’ 4. The Knights extended their lead to 29 points by halftime, to 37 points after three quarters and to 46 by game’s end. Junior Evelyn Jenkins led the Knights in scoring with a career-best 23 points. Jenkins more than doubled the Stars’ score by herself. Jenkins said the game gave her a much-needed confidence boost. “I didn’t actually realize that I had scored that many until after the game,” Jenkins said. “I think that it was definitely good for my confidence because you know sometimes you have your off games. That can kind of get you in a slump, but this game helped me.” After the game, Jenkins was promoted to varsity for the remainder of the season.
