Black Cat Ice Cream is on the prowl for its new location, opening in Valley Junction in February. Owners Alex and Angela Carter are putting the final touches on the space, painting and finishing the interior. Angela Carter told the Des Moines Register that a Feb. 14 opening is in the works. The 1,700-square-foot space at 134 Fifth St. in West Des Moines previously occupied by a retail store will have more seating inside for customers and a larger kitchen for experimenting on new flavors and novelty ice cream dishes such as the nuggets. In the meantime, fans who want to help blackcaticecream live up to its name can bring in a framed photo of their favorite black cat to display at the restaurant.
