In 1967, Gulf American fulfilled its promise by opening the grand Cape Coral Country Club clubhouse.
People who remember it say it was the most luxurious country club between Tampa and Miami.
It featured the Royal Tee dining room with red leather furniture, plush banquet rooms, a concierge, and valet parking.
Downstairs included a coffee shop, bar, liquor store, and locker rooms. Some investors questioned the spending, but the Rosens saw it as a key sales tool.
Before the clubhouse, Gulf American built a 100-unit motel, the Cape Coral Country Club Inn, to accommodate the influx of visitors, as the Nautilus Motel was frequently filling up due to the many flights bringing so many people in.
The inn was eventually replaced by the Banyan Trace condominiums.
