It may not look like much has changed at North Portland Library since it closed for renovations nearly two years ago in April 2023.
The building’s classic brick exterior — first built in 1913 as part of a series of public library grants from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie — is still intact more than a century later, a familiar facade along North Killingsworth Street. But walk up toward the side entrance, and you’ll find a less recognizable, adjoining black-brick building, part of the library’s 1,500-square-foot expansion.
