Tamika Huston’s case shed light on a significant concern in national media coverage of missing persons cases. The initial lack of attention on her disappearance in 2004 and similar cases led to the creation of the Black and Missing Foundation – an organization aimed at addressing the underrepresentation of missing people of color in the media. 
According to a 2023 National Crime Information Center report, 40% of missing persons cases are people of color and nearly 14% of the U.S. population identified as Black, according to the 2023 U.S. Census. 
To this day, those who knew and loved Tamika still say there is a struggle to get stories of missing women of color noticed. In the all-new 20/20, co-anchor
