”It was a rebellion, it was an uprising, it was a civil rights disobedience—it wasn’t no damn riot.” – Stormé DeLarverie This Black History Month, we honor the fearless Black LGBTQ+ icons who fought for liberation. Today, we spotlight Stormé DeLarverie (1920–2014)—a butch lesbian, drag king, and activist whose legacy is deeply tied to the Stonewall uprising. Known as the “Rosa Parks of the LGBTQ+ community,” Stormé is believed to have thrown the first punch at Stonewall in 1969, sparking the rebellion that ignited the modern queer rights movement. Her legacy reminds us that Black queer history is resistance, and our communities stand today because of her fight. #blackhistorymonth #blackhi...
