What do Josh Allen, Saquon Barkley and Patrick Mahomes have in common with The Wolverine? ⬇️
They all incorporate high intensity interval training into their prep. But before you scroll—this isn’t a pro-CrossFit pitch. I didn’t do many classes in the NFL and you wouldn’t catch me at Orange Theory or a HYROX event. But the foundation of those methodologies when done right is powerful.
Doing it right means dialing in your intervals:
✔ 15 to 20 second work intervals at 80 to 95 percent effort
✔ 40 to 60 second rest intervals recovering to around 50 to 60% of max heart rate
✔ 8 to 12 minute total duration
✔ Using sled pushes, assault bike sprints, row sprints, and good old-fashioned short sprints
Whether you do HIIT before or after strength work matters. Before can risk fatigue and injury. After can extend recovery time. The key is balance, train smart and adjust based on your goals.
